Dusk to Dawn: Explore the Marrakech Nightlife

As the sun sets, the rooftops and electrifying underground music venues in Marrakech come alive. The city is much more than the bustling souks, serene riads, and amazing hammams.

I guarantee that the vibrant Marrakech nightlife scene is sure to leave you breathless. Here’s everything you need to know.

Does Marrakech Have Good Nightlife?

The short answer is an unwavering yes. Nightlife in Morocco ranges from luxurious nightclubs and trendy bars to cultural festivals  and events all year.

Bars and lounges are often on rooftops, offering panoramic views and a vibrant atmosphere. Many establishments have belly dancing shows, which are a unique experience you must try.

If you aren’t into the party scene there are several night bazaars and restaurant lounges that are open late at night as well. In short, Marrakech has a diverse range of nightlife suited to everyone. Whether you want a relaxed atmosphere or a high-energy party, this city’s nightlife is sure to leave you breathless.

Can You Go Clubbing In Marrakech?

Definitely! The nightlife in Marrakech includes a vibrant clubbing scene. We have quite a few upscale nightclubs with international DJs. Some of the trendier bards transform into dance floors and many restaurants have live music—typically a mix between Moroccan and International.

Marrakech has a lively atmosphere during the day and the energy just ramps up at night. So you’ll find plenty of options if you’re looking for high-energy parties to go clubbing in Marrakech.

Is There A Dress Code For Clubs In Marrakech?

Not all clubs have a strict dress code, and there is quite a variation. In general, it’s best to dress modestly. The specific dress code depends on the venue, and may even change depending on the night of the week.

I’ve noticed that upscale nightclubs often require more formal attire, such as suits or dress shirts for men and dresses or skirts for women. These clubs may have a strict door policy, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Many visitors ask this question because they’re worried about our local customs. In my opinion, because we’re a predominantly Muslim country, modest clothing is advisable even when you’re clubbing.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t get to be stylish! There are tons of ways to dress up without having a revealing outfit.

What Are The Opening Hours For Clubs In Marrakech?

Although there is some considerable variation, most clubs in Marrakech open a little before midnight, so between 10 and 11 PM. You should also keep in mind that some clubs are closed on Sundays or another weekday, while others close later/earlier on certain days of the week.

My advice is to check the hours for the club you’re interested in going to. Later in this article, I’ll try my best to include accurate business hours for the clubs I suggest. It’s still best to call your chosen club or check their social media pages because things can change suddenly.

Also note that a few clubs, bars and restaurants close for up to a month for the summer. Some only adjust their hours while others remain closed for an extended period.

What Is The Cover Charge For Clubs In Marrakech?

I know that clubbing in any city can be expensive. Even if Marrakech is considerably affordable, partying every night can add up. The cover charges in clubs vary greatly—ranging from100 to 600 MAD (approximately $10 to $60 USD). The cover charge typically includes one or two drinks from a pre-specified menu.

Some clubs such as Theatro do not have a cover charge for women, and might waive the fee for men on slower nights. Generally, the charges for men are higher (300–600 MAD). Cover charges are also expectedly higher during holidays and special events.

Can You Smoke In Clubs In Marrakech?

Many clubs and bars allow smoking of cigars and shisha but not cigarettes. While smoking indoors is technically banned in Marrakech, this isn’t an issue for open air venues such as rooftop bars.

Some clubs have stricter smoking regulations, and others have designated outdoor spaces (smoking lounges). If you’re a smoker, I suggest calling the venue ahead of time  to check their specific smoking policy.

Note that Moroccan culture isn’t really tolerant towards women smoking, so I would advise against that.

Is It Ok To Drink Alcohol In Marrakech?

Alcohol consumption is legal in Marrakech (and in all of Morocco actually). You can purchase it at shops, bars, restaurants and even hotels all over Marrakech. It’s cheaper to buy at the duty-free.

There are a few establishments that decidedly do not serve alcohol because it is against Islamic law. It’s best to avoid excessive intoxication or drinking in public because it is not socially acceptable in Morocco. Still, you’re going to find many amazing cocktail menus in bars around Marrakech.

What Is The Music Like In Clubs In Marrakech?

As you could expect, many Marrakech nightclubs play a mix of International and Middle Eastern music(specifically Moroccan, of course). The music scene varies greatly, so there’s something for you regardless of your taste.

Electronic music (house, techno, EDM) are particularly popular, and Arabic music. You’ll find many venues hosting live performances, with some international DJs.

To really get a feel for our music scene, you’ve got to visit places like Epicurien. The DJs there typically mix traditional Moroccan sounds (Gnawa and Chaabi) with modern electronic dance music. It’s upbeat, melodic and incredibly lively.

This is a captivating restaurant that has gained a reputation as a nightlife destination. Don’t get me wrong, the authentic Moroccan cuisine was delicious. It’s not a nightclub per se, but the after dark atmosphere is very relaxed and the live music hones the old Marrakech ambiance.

Spread over three floors with a central courtyard, the decor is warm and inviting. This is the essence of Moroccan hospitality. There’s also usually a belly dancer performing at night.

Where To Go Out At Night In Hivernage?
